Originally from upstate New York, Philip Anson, M.D. received his BA degree from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio and his medical degree from State University of New York at Buffalo. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Rochester in 1983, followed by an additional year of training in England and Switzerland.
He has been a practicing orthopedic surgeon in Portland, Maine since 1984. In addition to being on the medical staff of Maine Medical Center, Mercy Hospital, New England Rehabilitation Hospital and Stephen's Memorial Hospital, he is also an Associate Clinical Professor of Orthopedics at the University of Vermont and was a visiting Spinal Fellow in Nottingham, England.
Dr. Anson is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and serves as an oral examiner for the Board. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the European Society of Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy, the North American Spine Society and the Scoliosis Research Society. In 2009, he received the Physician of the Year award from the Downeast Association of Physician Assistants.
Dr. Anson has subspecialty training in the management of spinal deformity and scoliosis as well as sports medicine.
Dr. Anson and his family reside in Scarborough, Maine.
