Shoulder Surgery

At Falmouth Orthopaedic Center, Dr. Sarah Shubert specializes in the care of complex shoulder disorders using innovative procedures. She treats a broad range of athletic, degenerative and traumatic shoulder disorders, such as arthritis and bursitis, sprains and strains, rotator cuff tears, labrum tears, instability, impingement and dislocations.

Many shoulder conditions or injuries may not require surgery, but if surgery is necessary, Dr. Shubert utilizes the latest surgical techniques to diagnose and treat these problems, including reverse shoulder replacement and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.

Reverse shoulder replacement is an alternative to traditional shoulder replacement surgery. This innovative procedure can substantially decrease shoulder pain and increase function for older patients with a combination of arthritis and rotator cuff injury. You might be a candidate for reverse shoulder replacement if you suffer from long term rotator cuff degeneration that makes it difficult to lift your arm.

In contrast to traditional total shoulder replacement surgery, the components of the artificial shoulder joint are placed in reversed positions to bypass the non-functioning rotator cuff and allow the deltoid muscle to raise the arm.

One of the most common procedures Dr. Shubert performs is arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, which is a minimally invasive technique. Other injuries and conditions that can be treated with arthroscopic shoulder surgery  include shoulder instability, shoulder impingement, torn labrum and arthritis.
